Duration: 2h
Organization: Transforming Energy Access – Learning Partnership (TEA LP)
This workshop aims to address the evolving landscape of the energy sector and the educational needs to deliver a skilled work force that is ready to deliver clean energy access that is technologically sound, economically feasible, and locally appropriate. Through a panel discussion and interactive session, this workshop will explore the role of energy education in cultivating a workforce that is capable of addressing the multiple, complex challenges faced within the sector.
This workshop aims to address the evolving landscape of the energy sector and the educational needs to deliver a skilled work force that is ready to deliver clean energy access that is technologically sound, economically feasible, and locally appropriate. Yet, at present, in many places, the energy education provided does not align with the needs of the energy sector to deliver this on the ground. We believe that local embeddedness of education and a focus on work place readiness is essential to ensure the future workforce of the energy sector
is ready to take on the challenge in their local areas, and delivery locally appropriate solutions. Centred on the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goal 7, the workshop will explore the role of energy education in cultivating a workforce that is capable of addressing the multiple, complex challenges faced within the sector.
In this workshop we will bring together stakeholders in the energy education space from across the globe, with the objective to a) briefly establish the current landscape of energy education and its key challenges across geographical areas ; b) synergies and differences between approaches; c) identifying opportunities for collaboration and learning across stakeholders, and d) establish a research and educational agenda that has the potential to help drive sustainable energy education for the sector. We expect that this workshop will foster collaboration among energy educators and the energy sector more broadly, sharing insights on current challenges, and proposing actionable solutions across contexts, whilst creating a safe space to engage in educational discussions. The scope of the workshop encompasses sustainable energy education, geographical inclusion and diversity, skills and expertise development, and workplace readiness. Activities include a panel discussion with speakers from the TEA-LP partnership, followed by an interctive session
The workshop will be organised by the TEA Learning Partnership team, including Mascha Moorlach and Jacqueline Garcia. The Transforming Energy Access – Learning Partnership (TEA-LP) is a partnership of African, South Asian and Indo-Pacific universities and other stakeholders, committed to ensuring a highly qualified workforce to drive the transition to sustainable energy access for all. Our university partners aim to deliver innovative and relevant, Masters’ level courses and our Continued Professional Development courses aim to support professionals already working in the energy sector. In addition, TEA-LP brings together a network of southern expertise, and supports sustainable energy educators through workshops, webinars, student support, travel opportunities, and affiliated partnerships, including the Efficiency for Access Design Challenge, implemented by the Energy Savings Trust.
